For those of you who don’t already know. Google has launched a local-business search, 1-800-Goog411 that is accessible via phone. If you have a cell phone with a QWERTY keyword like me, then you’ll need the actual number which is 1-800-466-4411. You start out by saying the city and state. If it doesn’t interpret the city correctly, you can also type out the city you’re looking for or type in the zip code of the city. PRETTY COOL! The only issue I kind of have with it is that it’s super sound sensitive, it catches everything in the background! I’ve started using it the minute it went into beta, my significant other uses it all the time as well and loves it. I think it is absolutely great from that first moment on, so of course like any other Google fan would do, I spread the word!
Everytime I would try it out, it recognized every single one of my requests, unlike FREE411 that just never returned the results I was looking for. On top of the great results I didn’t have to sit and listen to advertisement after advertisement like I would have to listen to using FREE411. Goog411 also allows you to receive a text message of the information including the name, phone number and address! I am impressed with Google just about everyday! I personally think they’re one of the most innovative companies around!
Do you have a business that you would like included in this service? Google pulls this information from their Google Maps. Just visit the Google Local Business Center and ad your listing there, it’s easy and free! Don’t miss out on this opportunity to add more exposure for your business if you’re not already listed in GMaps.
I wonder what happened to the regular 411 service? Is it still around? Are there still rude people answering on the other line? That is one of the main reasons I hated 411 was because there were always rude people who answer and try to get you off the line as quick as possible, then would transfer you to a number completely irrelevant to what you were looking for…GEESH! They always treated me like they had something else better to do. Aren’t they at work? They shouldn’t have anything better to do. Just my opinion, haha. Don’t get me wrong there were one or two that were kind and gave me what I needed.
If you have any tips or comments on using 1-800-GOOG-411, or on what happened to the OG of 411s, please feel free to drop me a line.
Check out the Google video on how to use it. Enjoy!
